Roman Shades are a very popular window treatment option among homeowners. The term Roman Shades actually refers to a unique style of blind. Traditional roller blinds usually roll up on a coil when they are not in use. Blinds on the other hand are made up of multiple slats of either wood or vinyl. These slats can be adjusted to change the amount of sunlight that comes into the room.
Roman shades can also be raised and removed completely from view.
However, Roman Shades are crafted out of material in a manner similar to a curtain.
Rather than rolling up when raised, they fold up like an accordion. There are various styles of the Roman Shades to choose from to suit
your tastes.
The Classic Fold Roman Shade will gather up the material in a rather loose fashion as the shade is raised. When
it is lowered completely there are no visible folds in the material. This offers the "classic" look that appeals to so many people.
A European Style Roman Shade is similar to the Classic with two primary differences. The bottom edge does not have the crisp defined shape of the Classic Fold, making it appear much more casual in nature. In addition, in the raised position the material will gather up in such a manner
as to give the appearance that the shade is quite large.
Flat Fold shades offer a structured look. The horizontal folds are visible in the lowest position. Normally these folds will appear every six inches throughout the length of the shade. When the shade is raised the folds help to form a tidy and organized appearance.
In addition to the material used to make Roman Shades, liners are available to help control the amount of light entering the room.
The cord loop system is an ingenious addition to Roman Shades. Unlike traditional blinds that have cords hanging down almost to the floor, the continuous lift on Roman Shades keeps the cords neatly out of the way.
